Flatcar series 13-401
A model of a flat wagon series 13-401, widespread in USSR, Russia and other 1520mm guage countries.
First version was designed in 2022 for FDM printer. It was printed in white PLA, primed and painted with acrylics. Layer lines are rather visible, and small details are lost. Painting is also rather crude, as it was approximately my first model painting. I very much like colors of wooden floor however.

Current model
In 2023 the model was redesigned for resin printer, so it has much more details and has features unprintable in FDM. I have not fully mastered resin yet, so 1 detail still needs to be printed in FDM, a flooring of the platform. Since my resin vat is not big enough to print the whole wagon as a single part, I split it in halves, and FDM-printed flooring serves for alignment of the 2 halves.
I’ve designed several versions of floors:
-
Simple wooden floor, with planks texture
-
Wooden-metal floor (flat sheet of metal in the center, wood planks on the outer regions, where car wheels are placed when vehicles are transported on a platform)
-
Skeleton floor with container holes. Designed for PIKO-compatible containers, so usable with my container collection including tank containers.
-
Wooden floor with container pins
The wagons can also have:
-
Removable sideskirt sections
-
Sidestakes for pipes or lumber loads, to be added on top of a wooden floor.
An interesting feature that I like is magnetic load attachment system. 3 neodimuim magnets are hidden glued under the floor, and different loads can snap to the magnets. So far I have metal pipes (made from coctail straws), I plan to create lumber or timber (from wood sticks), vehicles and some general railroad loads as well.
The model is currently not open-source. |
